Flight from Kathmandu/Manthali to Lukla (2,850m / 9,350ft) and Trek to Phakding
Your Everest 3 Passes Trek kicks off with a thrilling flight to Lukla. During the trekking season (March, April, May, September, October, and November), flights to Lukla may be rerouted through Manthali Airport. If this happens, we will pick you up from your hotel around 12:30 AM and drive you for about five hours to Manthali Airport. From there, you’ll board a 20-minute flight to Lukla. In the off-season (December through February and June through August), the flight departs directly from Kathmandu to Lukla, taking around 40 minutes.
Upon arriving in Lukla, we will descend to the Thado Koshi River and cross several suspension bridges before reaching Phakding. This initial trek is relatively short (around 6.2 km or 3.8 miles), offering a gentle start while allowing for some acclimatization. Along the way, we will visit the local Rimishung Monastery.
After a brief but enjoyable trek of around 3 hours, you will arrive in Phakding, where you will rest for the night.

We will pass through Monjo Village and into the Sagarmatha National Park, where we’ll stop to register our permits. Continuing through lush forests, we’ll start to catch glimpses of Mount Everest as we climb up toward Namche Bazaar. This trek will take about 6 hours, and by the time we reach Namche, you will have your first close-up view of Everest.
